Who should be the banker at a home poker game?
Whoever is hosting, and ideally not someone playing a big stack. The banker's job is to record buy-ins as they happen — that is the whole role, and it is a record-keeping job rather than a position of trust, provided the record is visible to everyone.
Most banker disputes are not about honesty. They are about a rebuy that happened during a hand, while the banker was in that hand, and never got written down. Any system where the record is written by one person from memory will lose entries.
The fix is to make the record visible rather than to pick a more trustworthy banker. If every player can see the buy-in list at any moment, an error gets caught within minutes by the person it affects.
If the host is also the biggest winner on the night, having the record already public removes the conversation entirely. That is worth more than it sounds, because that conversation is the one that ends home games.
