What happens when two players have the same hand?
You compare inside the hand. Flushes go card by card from the top, straights on the highest card only, and full houses on the three of a kind before the pair. Suits never break ties in Hold'em, so genuinely identical hands split the pot.
The full house rule is the one people get backwards. Sevens full of twos beats fives full of aces, because the trips are compared first and the pair is only consulted when the trips match.
Flushes are where a small suited hand costs money. You can make exactly the hand you were drawing to and still lose to the player holding the ace, because the comparison starts at the top card and works down.
For a pair or two pair, the fifth card decides it once the pairs match. That fifth card can come from the board, which means two players can hold different cards and still chop.
